Group Lessons
-$65-
Join our pre-existing groups for lessons structured in an hour long format. The first 30 minutes of the lesson are spent learning how to groom and tack your horse, focusing on safety and horse: handling skills. The second half of the lesson is spent in the saddle, receiving expert instruction on the ins and outs of horsemanship. Small group sizes of no more than 4-5 riders allow our instructor to provide individualized, targeted directions to each rider in the class, regardless of skill level. Group lessons may be purchased individually, or as a monthly subscription far $240/month.
Private Lessons
-$85-
Private lessons are 30 minutes of one-on-one riding instruction. When you arrive, your horse will be tacked and ready. However, riders are encouraged to arrive early enough to help with the grooming and tacking process. Please let us know at scheduling if you plan on arriving early, allowing us to plan accordingly, ensuring a full 30 minutes in the saddle. Private lessons are perfect for nervous newbies, the seasoned but shy, or if you have a specific skill you wish to perfect. Private lessons may be purchased individually, or as monthly subscription for $330/ month.
Mini Lessons
-$50-
Mini lessons are designed specifically with kids ages 3-5 in mind. The 15 minute ride time perfectly accommodates a young rider’s growing attention span and physical fitness needs. We develop horsemanship skills in a safe environment, utilizing both traditional teaching methods as well as games created to build the strength and coordination needed to advance to full group lessons. Mini lessons are the perfect way to introduce the tiniest of tots to the world of horses. Mini lessons may be purchased individually, or as a monthly subscription for $180/ month.
You’ve signed up for a lesson, what’s next?
- Before arriving for your lesson, please fill out a liability release. There is a link to the waiver at the top of this page.
- Please wear long pants and a closed-toe/closed heel shoe; jeans or leggings and tennis shoes are perfect. Shorts and sandals are not allowed.
- Riding horses is an athletic activity! Make sure you’re prepared for a workout with appropriate undergarments and antiperspirant. In cooler weather, dress in light layers that can be easily added and removed as needed.
- Laurel Ridge requires helmets for all riders under 18 years of age, and has several in all sizes available to borrow. However, riders are welcome to wear their own, properly fitted helmet for their lessons.
- When you arrive at the property, please follow the sidewalk located to the right of the garden, from the parking lot to the barn’s entrance.
- Come on in! Please check for horses before walking into the barn aisle.
- We’re a friendly bunch, so let anyone there know you are here for a lesson, and they’ll show you the way.
- During the first lesson, with the help of an instructor, you will learn how to brush, tack, safely interact with your horse on the ground, safely mount and dismount, learn correct riding position in the saddle, how to stop, walk, guide (turn), trot, and how to post the trot. We know this is a lot of new information, and it’s okay if you don’t master everything the first time!
- Have a blast, hug your horse, give them a treat, then come see us again soon!
Frequently Asked Questions:
My child has never been around horses, how do I know if lessons are appropriate?
- A free barn tour is a great way to introduce your child to a horse and their instructor before committing to lessons. Call us to schedule!
When do I pay, and how do I pay?
- You will pay for your lesson when you arrive at the barn. We accept cash, check, Venmo, Zelle, PayPal, and credit card.
What are the benefits of a monthly subscription?
- Signing up for a monthly subscription discounts lessons by an average of 15% per month. Additionally, you will have a permanent lesson spot reserved for you on the schedule. To enjoy these benefits, tuition must be paid in full before the first lesson of the month.
What is your cancellation/make-up lesson policy?
- To be eligible for a make-up lesson, advance notice of cancellation is required. A “no-call/no-show” incident will not be rescheduled. Missed lessons will not refunded, but they have a three month expiration date for rescheduling.
What about bad weather; do you cancel lessons?
- At Laurel Ridge, we are fortunate to have both an indoor and an outdoor arena. This allows our schedule to continue rain or shine! Don’t worry, your horses are very used to working and living with the sounds of rain and thunder. However, we do know that Texas weather is unpredictable at times; if bad weather makes traveling to and from the barn dangerous, lessons can be rescheduled in accordance with the cancellation policy.
